May 16 2013

Today and tomorrow there will be no field school. Bob is attending the annual Canadian Archaeological Association Conference in Whistler. He will be giving a presentation about the research component of the Seymour Valley Archaeological Project, focusing on the Japanese camps. One of our fellow students, Richard, will be volunteering at the meetings.

This week, the majority of the students have been able to get well on their way with their projects. Wendy has been filming footage for the short documentary she is making, and Nadine has been taking photos of sites and students for her photography project.

Ananda, who is doing public education for her project, has got our Facebook page up and running and will be helping out at an event called "Wilderness at Your Doorstep", this Sunday May 19th up at Lynn Headwaters Regional Park from 10:00 - 2:00 pm. She will be representing the Archaeology Field School this year, and giving out information regarding the project to the public. Also, Stuart who is doing our waste audit for his project, was able to begin sorting through the organic and non-organic remains on Wednesday. After a day in the field,  Stuart went back to the lab to sort and weigh what was left by students over the course of the last three days.
